Apr. 19, 2012, Ottawa — Small businesses can now communicate with the
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) via the My Business Account web portal.
Gail Shea, minister of national revenue, and Maxime Bernier, the
minister of state for small business and tourism, announced the official
launch of the new service on April 17. Small businesses, their
employees and representatives can now use the My Business Account portal
to ask the CRA account-specific, tax-related questions, knowing that
the CRA will provide an answer online, in writing, within a given time
"Our government made a commitment to reducing red tape for businesses.
The new My Business Account enquiries service is just one way we have
made it easier for businesses to interact with the CRA," said Shea.
"Simply put, this new service allows business owners the confidence that
within a reasonable time frame, they will receive a clearly written
answer based on the information they provide, that they can rely on."
Shea also announced the extension of the hiring credit for small
business. The credit, which was first introduced in 2011, is designed to
help offset the cost of hiring new employees and is automatically
applied when the 2012 T4 information return is filed, requiring no
additional paperwork of employers.
"CRA's online services for business is a promising step to cut
government red tape for entrepreneurs," said Bernier. "By providing
entrepreneurs with the tools they need, entrepreneurs will spend less
time struggling with burdensome red tape and more time doing what they
do best: creating jobs and wealth for our country."
