Tulip ‘Canadian Liberator’
Written by Canadian Garden Centre
In 1992, Vanhof and Blokker Ltd. of Mississauga, Ont., first reserved the name ‘Canadian Liberator’ with the Royal General Bulbgrowers’ Association in Hillegom, The Netherlands. In 1992, Vanhof and Blokker Ltd. of Mississauga, Ont., first reserved the name ‘Canadian Liberator’ with the Royal General Bulbgrowers’ Association in Hillegom, The Netherlands.

It took Nic. Van Schagen & Zn. BV in Breezand, The Netherlands, many years of careful growing to build up a sizable stock before this cultivar, a mutant of T. Judith Leyster, finally became available for sale on a limited scale in the fall of 2005. Vanhof and Blokker Ltd., who have the exclusive commercial rights to market this cultivar in Canada, brought the first bulbs into the country.

The new Triumph Tulip ‘Canadian Liberator’ is a beautiful, strong, bright red with a light shiny glow on the outer petals.  The perfectly shaped flowers have lasting qualities and bloom mid-season on 18-20” tall sturdy stems.  It is an excellent garden tulip and very suitable for impressive mass landscape plantings as well.

Tulipa ‘Canadian Liberator’ was named in honour of all members of the Canadian Army, Navy, Air Force, Merchant Marine, who took part in the liberation of Holland during the Second World War.  For more information, visit www.vanhofandblokker.com.
