The Home Depot marked the start of its fourth annual month of service this past September. The Home Depot led 3,500 volunteers in donating 18,000 hours to community projects across Canada. In partnership with Volunteer Canada and KaBOOM!, this volunteer initiative impacted more than 125 communities while engaging not-for-profit partners in each of those communities.
On Sept. 20, associates from all 144 The Home Depot stores across Canada participated in projects in the communities where stores are located. These activities included community projects focused on improving playspaces, community areas, transitional housing, schools and the environment.
In 2005, Volunteer Canada and The Home Depot Canada joined forces to form the Corporate Council on Volunteering (CCOV), the first of its kind in Canada. The CCOV is made up of 20 Canadian corporate leaders dedicated to helping lead the volunteer movement in Canada.
Throughout 2006, The Home Depot Canada is committed to volunteering 60,000 hours to community projects, 18,000 of which will be contributed during its Month of Service in September. The Home Depot associates who volunteer their time at community projects during the Month of Service and throughout the year are part of Team Depot, a store-based volunteer program encouraging and enabling associates to give back to their communities. The program was established in 1992 to help meet the needs of communities where associates live and work.
